This past Friday we surprised the office staff with a field trip to our future office space. It was the first time everyone had the opportunity to see what has been held in secrecy and in the works for almost a year. While Friday was a landmark day, it marked the end of one long journey and the beginning of another. In a handful of months, we will be leaving the RSE home for the past 20 years to our future digs just a few miles away. Our process started like any creative endeavor; with a creative brief. The owners put together a list of what we desired in an office and the amenities we desire to support and surround us. Once this was put together, it was evident we had grown past the current space. We turned our brief and input over to two of the best commercial real estate brokers in town. We explored many options and weighed each against the other. We narrowed in on our favorite and soon months of discussions and negotiations ensued. Negotiations sound as if they could be contentious. In no way did we experience that. We were not only well represented, we found a future landlord that appreciated our vision for our office and worked hard to help us put it together.
Now that we have our future home, the second part of the journey begins. Soon, the build-out of the space, adding design features and moving the renowned office artwork, will begin. Our vision is to create an office that celebrates the creative and collaborative industry we are in. Our office design will encourage open discussions through shared work space. We will have more space to entertain and host meetings while at the same time creating areas for escape and privacy. We will build in current day technology and plan for a stronger digital presence in future days.
Office design and the work environment have changed a great deal since we moved into our current space. Our move and new office space will allow us to celebrate our culture and work style while maintaining the values that make RSE a unique place to work.
