Name: Crystal Thomas
Title: Account Manager
What you wish your title was: Director of Fun (Seriously I know someone with this title), or The Cheese Monster
What WE think your title should be:
Kat: Most Covet-able Wardrobe Wearer
Ameila: Chief Innovation Officer (OR) Worst Vegan
Paul: Cool Conductor of Client Work
Karla: Lover of Cheese and Butter(s)
Background: Started in gaming pr, later moved to tech pr, then moved to entertainment pr and finally the jump to advertising!
Years at RSE: 2.3
Accounts you work on: Jaco Environmental Inc., Sacramento Opera and Philharmonic, Northern California Carpenters Union, Touro University, Better Business Bureau, Sacramento County Regional Sanitation District and Sacramento Area Sewer District
Most memorable logo/ad/pr campaign: I love impactful and inspiring ads like Nike’s “Just Do It,” or Dove Beauty. I also really love off-the-wall ads like those crazy Skittles commercials.
First thing you notice about people: If they make good eye contact. I used to be afraid at looking people in the eye when I was in middle school so now it’s something I notice right away.
Craziest/coolest thing you’ve ever done for a client: Flew to Boston to help organize a pop-up refrigerator museum in the town square. Who knew we could make refrigerator recycling cool? (pun intended?)
If money and time weren’t an issue, what passion would you pursue? I’d be a travel show host reporting on food, culture and entertainment in other counties…I think Anthony Bourdain stole my idea!
Where do you call home? SacTown!
What is the farthest you’ve been from home? Germany, Prague and Amsterdam – I love to travel
What is your favorite aspect of “agency life”? The ever changing industry and constant creativity
I heart sharp cheddar cheese and Butters, my dog (not butter the food?)
What is the best Halloween costume you’ve ever worn? I wore a sheet with holes poked out for the eyes and said I was a ghost. My mom didn’t allow my sister and I to go trick or treating so one year, while she was at the store, we turned two sheets into costumes and went around the neighborhood making ghostly sounds and collecting candy. We were busted the next day when she found a pillow case filled with candy under our beds.
You have a 10 minute speech to give at a high school. What is it about? Picture what you want your life to be in 10 years. Now erase that picture because life will throw you curve balls, it will take you to places you never thought you’d go, it will change your perspective on things. All you can do is try to do your best, take risks, and enjoy the ride.
If you were going to be stranded on an island with one fellow RSE-er, who would it be? Michelle McIntosh – She makes me laugh and always has snacks.
One brand you can’t live without. Zara (stylish girl, I want your closet)
Who inspires you? Extremely driven and unafraid people. Every time I read a 30 under 30 list, I’m inspired.
What is your proudest moment? Graduating from my Master’s program – I seriously thought I wasn’t going to make it through.
Never have I ever been in a real fight but I maintain the position that I can take anyone out like Jackie Chan. (or have you?)
